My Low Carbon Diet Entry #8
July 15- July 28, 2012
First Grading is about to end, and so a very busy week has passed. I used to sleep before or at 12 midnight! We need to finish outputs and projects because we’re going to take the periodical test next week. But I still don’t forget my ways to conserve energy to help Mother Earth.
Even though the computer is always turn on, I only often watch television and use my cellphone, because I am really busy. I also used to unplug the appliances not in use. When we’re having or practice or going to some near places, I prefer walking instead of riding a vehicle.
And lastly, because again, its raining very hard, I often use electricfan. That help maybe simple, but for me I know, that I help a lot to save the environment.
La Niña Phenomenon
- Today, I learned that La Niña Phenomenon is the trade wind that is unusually strong due to an enhanced pressure gradient between the eastern and western Pacific. During a period of La Niña, the sea surface temperature across the equatorial Eastern Central Pacific Ocean will be lower than normal by 3–5 °C.
- I will apply this learning about this phenomenon in my daily activities so that I can be ready and aware regarding with this phenomenon.
- Learning about this phenomenon is important because this can help in reserving nature and become ready if this will ever occur.
- On larger scale, I will share my learnings to other people, for hem to know that this phenomenon is not normal, that we should stop bad doings regarding to Mother Nature.
- I need to know more about this phenomenon so that I can be ready and aware of this phenomenon
El Niño Phenomenon
- Today, I learned that El Niño Phenomenon is the abnormal warming of surface ocean waters in the eastern tropical Pacific, is one part of what's called the Southern Oscillation (the see-saw pattern of reversing surface air pressure between the eastern and western tropical Pacific). The accepted definition is a warming or cooling of at least 0.5 °C (0.9 °F) averaged over the east-central tropical Pacific Ocean. When El Niño conditions last for many months, extensive ocean warming and the reduction in Easterly Trade winds limits upwelling of cold nutrient-rich deep water and its economic impact to local fishing for an international market can be serious.
- I will apply my learning about this phenomenon in my daily activities/ habits so that I can be aware of this very serious phenomenon.
- Learning about this phenomenon is important because I will be aware, knowledgeable and ready this phenomenon will happen.
- On larger scale, I will share my learnings to other people, for them to be also aware, ready if this phenomenon will happen and lastly for them to know that if we, people will continue doing activities that can destruct the beauty of nature; we will suffer this very serious phenomenon.
- I need to know more about this phenomenon so that I can be more responsible and aware in all of my actions that I do. I know that this can affect me if this phenomenon occurs.
My Low Carbon Diet Entry #7
Aside from it is cold, we’re very busy this. We’re always having activities, homeworks and test; as a result, I used to sleep in 12 midnight this week! My computer is always turned on. To help the environment again, I make sure to turn off the appliances/ gadgets not in use. Like for example, our television, I used to turn it on if necessary or if we have to watch for news.
When I am brushing my teeth too, I use a glass of water. And I also make sure that there is no leaking water from the faucet.
Tropical Depression
Tail of a Cold Front
- Today, I learned that Cold Front is defined as the leading edge of a cooler mass of air, replacing (at ground level) a warmer mass of air, which lies within a fairly sharp surface trough of low pressure. It forms in the wake of an extratropical cyclone, at the leading edge of its cold air advection pattern, which is also known as the cyclone's dry conveyor belt circulation. It is developed by means of cooler and denser air wedges under the less-dense warm air, lifting it.
- I will apply my learnings about this phenomenon in my daily activities, in preparing for any possible weather problems, and to my other related lessons.
- Learning about this phenomenon will help us to become aware and to understand the weather happening around us.
- On larger scale, I will share my learnings about this phenomenon to my friends, classmates or any other people for them to clearly understand this phenomenon.
- I want to know further more in this phenomenon for to become more responsible and aware.
My Low Carbon Diet Entry # 6
July 8- July 14, 2012
This weekend, we don’t have much outputs do and so I decided to clean my room and our backyard wherein I use to segregate waste into biodegradable and non- biodegradable. After that I decided to take a rest and review my previous lessons for the short quizzes we’re going to take next week.
My Low Carbon Diet Entry # 5
July 1- July 7, 2012
June is over, and July here it comes! The weather gets colder and wet! But I’m glad, that I can help the environment more. I often use electric fans and lights; instead, I use to help my mother in some household chores. When I am washing dishes, I use basin of water, and also when I am brushing my teeth, I also use glass of water. Because of that efforts, I’m happy that our electric and water consumption decrease.
When we’re having practice, I prefer walking when it’s on near places. When I’m eating snacks/ merienda, I first put the trashes here in my pocket instead of throwing it anywhere, and then I throw it on the trash can. When the practice ends, I walk again and take a rest instead of watching television. A little help to the environment makes e feel comfortable and happy.
Monsoon
- Today I learned that Monsoon is a wind system that influences large climatic regions and reverses direction seasonally. This word is derived from an Arabic word “Mausim” which means season. It is traditionally defined as seasonal reversing wind caused by cyclic air movements by corresponding changes in precipitation. It occurs here in the Philippines by means of Southwest Monsoon or Habagat that occurs on May to October, and the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan that occurs on September to April. It is related to ITCZ because it makes the ITCZ move north.
- I will apply my learning about MONSOON in my daily life that it occurs and affects the Philippine Weather, and into the other lessons related to the Earth’s phenomenon.
- Learning about this phenomenon is important because it helps us understand that it is normal that Philippine experiences monsoon that affects some activities.
- On the larger scale, I will share my learnings about this phenomenon to other student/people so that they will become aware and ready for the effects of this phenomenon.
- I need to learn more about the effects of monsoon so that, I will become aware and more responsible in all the activities I do.

June 24- June 30, 2012
Another typhoon named " Dindo" has come this week. As usual, it is cold and wet. My shoes always get dirty and wet! But I never forget the ways to conserve energy and help the environment. And so, I often use electric fans instead I used to fan myself. I often use my cell phone and so, I often charge it. I often use computer or visit social networks. It’s all because the month of June is about to end. The month of July is about to come! I should focus more on studying instead of watching television or using computer. I should study and be responsible more because the school works starts to increase.

My Low Cabon Diet Entry # 1
June 9, 2012
Today is Sunday. We go to church at 10:00am. Then, we go to the market to buy something. My mother bought me a “Puto” and eats it when we’re on our way home. When I’m done eating the Puto, I did not throw the plastic on the road. Instead, I kept it on my pocket then I throw it on the trash can when we’re already at home. I help my mother to carry some things she bought from the market. After that, I help her in some household chores such washing dishes, where I use a basin filled with water. I also make sure that there is water leaking in the faucet. After that, I make my assignments. As I am making it, I make sure that there is no light switched on. Although it’s very hot, I use electric fan instead aircon. A little help to the environment makes me feel more comfortable and better. After I finish all my assignments & outputs, I sleep early instead of watching television
