"Desiderata" by Max Ehrman

As I read this lovely and a very inspirational poem made by Max Ehrman, I learned so many things that I should apply in daily life. It leaves a very wonderful message not only to those who gone astray, but also to people who still don’t believe to themselves, who compare themselves to others.
This poem conveys that we should not surrender or give up in every dream we want in life. Instead, we should focus more on with our dreams. We have to do something to reach it, like climbing a mountain. But as we are reaching our dreams, we should come up with virtue. We should avoid temptations, which will make our dreams fail. And lastly, we shouldn’t compare ourselves to others. God made us unique from one another to learn and to appreciate our life, not other’s life.
One of the stanza I like most is “With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy”. This stanza made me realize that in every bad thing happen to us, we should still be happy. We should not stop believing of what we want. That’s life. If we give up, it’s like losing money from a lottery for 1 day. Instead, we must be thankful of that; that this broken dream made us stronger. That in the future, these failures we experienced may be the reason why we became successful.
